JOPLIN, Mo. — After allowing a first-inning grand slam, the Saltdogs (31-57) stormed back to blow out the Joplin Blasters (46-42) 10-4 in front of 2,200 fans at Joe Becker Stadium Tuesday night.
Jake Taylor’s one-out grand slam slotted Joplin the early 4-0 lead. Lincoln then chipped away with two runs in the third and tied the game on a two-out, two-run single from C.J. Ziegler in the fourth.
The ‘Dogs then pounced for six runs in the fifth, highlighted by two-run hits from Aaron Payne and Mitch Canham.
Kevin McGovern (5-8) settled down after the roughshod first, pitching six innings to earn the win. Alberto Castillo (1-3) allowed six runs – five earned – in 4 1/3 innings to absorb the loss.
All nine Lincoln starters acquired at least one hit en route to a season-high 17 hit performance.
The victory snaps a 10-game losing streak for the Saltdogs.
