SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota – Matt Goodheart drove in five runs, Elijah Johnson picked up his first professional win, and the Saltdogs won a third consecutive game with a 9-5 victory against the Sioux Falls Canaries at Sioux Falls Stadium on Wednesday night.
Goodheart gave Lincoln (20-14) the lead for good with a two-out, two-run double tucked down the left-field line in the 4th, and the ‘Dogs held on to win a sixth consecutive game against Sioux Falls (10-26).
Elijah Johnson allowed only two runs over five innings, but after the ‘Dogs fell behind 2-0 after three innings, Lincoln scored three in the 4th to take a 3-2 lead.
The ‘Dogs added two more in the 6th – Matt Goodheart’s sacrifice fly made it 4-2 before an error from Angelo Altavilla gifted Lincoln another run.
Josh Altmann hit a two-run double to make it 7-2 in the 7th, and Goodheart picked up two more RBIs with a single in the 9th.
Sioux Falls scored three times in the 9th, but the ‘Dogs moved to 9-9 when allowing the first run of the game.
Justin Byrd had two hits and now has an 11-game hitting streak, while Randy Norris extended his hitting streak to 10 with a 7th-inning single. Hunter Clanin drove in Lincoln’s first run and now has a 27-game on-base streak.
Matt Cronin tossed two scoreless innings, and Carson Lance pitched a 1-2-3 8th inning. Jesse Stallings allowed three runs – one earned – in his first appearance since June 10th.
The ‘Dogs have a chance to sweep a second consecutive series against the Canaries. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, and pregame coverage begins at 6:35 on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
