LINCOLN, Nebraska – John Sansone clubbed a game-tying triple in the 8th inning, but Cleburne scored twice on five walks in the 9th and held on for a 7-5 win at Haymarket Park on Friday night.
The ‘Dogs fell behind 5-0 after five innings before a three-run 5th inning and a two-run 8th. Sansone’s triple came after Nick Schulz drove in a run with an RBI infield single.
Curt Smith went 2-for-4 with a single and a double, while Ivan Marin walked three times out of the nine spot. Randolph Oduber went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a walk.
Ricky Knapp tossed five innings in his second start with the ‘Dogs, and gave up five runs on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Luis Diaz tossed a scoreless inning in his debut, while Austin Pettibone faced six batters over two complete innings.
Jake Hohensee came in for the ninth and walked two of the three he faced. He took a loss in his second consecutive relief outing.
Chase Simpson walked four times – one intentional – and Kenny Meimerstorf clubbed a solo homer. Audie Afenir hit a two-run homer, and Nick Rotola had a triple and a run scored.
With the series now even, the ‘Dogs and Railroaders play Game 3 of the four-game series at Haymarket Park on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Pregame coverage will begin on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
