LINCOLN, Nebraska – CF Nick Anderson hit a go-ahead grand slam in the 8th inning and the Saltdogs rallied to beat the Lake Country DockHounds 11-8 at Haymarket Park on Thursday night.
Anderson’s grand slam put Lincoln (13-16) ahead and the ‘Dogs won the series after LHP Steffon Moore went 1-2-3 against the DockHounds (12-18) to pick up his third save in the 9th.
Lake Country scored the first three runs of the game. LF Dustin Woodcock opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly before 1B Marcus Chiu hit the first of his two homers – a two-run shot in the 1st.
The ‘Dogs scored the next seven runs. 1B Yanio Perez reached on an error that scored a run and LF Carson Maxwell picked up his first ‘Dogs hit and RBI with a double to make it 3-2 in the 1st inning.
In the 2nd inning, SS Drew Devine hit a go-ahead three-run homer and Perez followed with a solo shot. Perez added a third RBI with a sac fly to make it 7-3 in the 4th.
The DockHounds scored five in the 5th to regain the lead. SS Demetrius Sims hit a two-run single and Chiu then hit a three-run homer to give Lake Country an 8-7 lead.
The game remained tight until the 8th inning, when DH Matt Goodheart led off the inning with a single. RF Zane Zurbrugg then walked, and Devine loaded the bases with a bunt single to the third base side. Anderson’s 11th homer came on a 3-2 pitch with the bases loaded and nobody out in the inning.
RHP Carter Hope got the win with three scoreless innings in relief. The ‘Dogs also stole a franchise-record seven bases.
Lincoln is 5-1 to start the nine-game home stand and will now host the Sioux City Explorers for the first time this year. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and pregame coverage begins at 6:35 on KFOR FM 101.5/1240 AM.
