The Saltdogs signed hard-throwing RHP Fabio Martinez for their bullpen Tuesday, and made several other transactions.
Martinez has struck out 531 batters in 443 2/3 career innings, for a head-turning 10.7 strikeout-per-nine innings ratio over nine professional seasons.
The 26-year old from San Cristobal, Dominican Republic began his career with the Angels organization in 2007, and has also been with the Indians and Dodgers.
Martinez has reached as high as Triple-A, and pitched last season at Double-A Tulsa.
Overall, Martinez has gone 24-23 with a 4.69 ERA in 136 games, including 75 starts, and has a 7.2 walks-per-nine inning ratio.
Along with Evan Reed, the Saltdogs now feature two right-handers with 95-plus m.p.h. fastballs.
The ‘Dogs activated utility man Freddy Flores from the disabled list.
RHP Ryan O’Sullivan was placed on the seven-day disabled list, retroactive to May 22.
Lincoln also traded RHP Matt Shepherd to the Texas AirHogs for a player to be named later.
The Saltdogs wrap up a season-opening seven-game road trip tonight in Kansas City at 7:05 p.m.
