SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota SS Drew Devine went 3-for-5 with a go-ahead solo homer in the 8th inning, but the ‘Dogs gave up five in the bottom of the 8th in a 12-8 loss to the Sioux Falls Canaries at Sioux Falls Stadium on Saturday night.

Devine’s solo homer was one of three solo shots for Lincoln (18-19) in the 8th inning, following back-to-back homers to start the frame from 2B Nate Samson and DH Aaron Takacs, but RHP Matt Cronin gave up three runs and LHP Steffon Moore allowed two in a five-run 8th for Sioux Falls (17-23).

The ‘Dogs hit five homers in the game – and twice went back-to-back. After Sioux Falls took a 3-0 lead with a two-run homer from LF Wyatt Ulrich and a solo homer from 1B Trevor Achenbach in the 2nd inning, the ‘Dogs got on the board with back-to-back homers from 1B Yanio Perez and 3B Will Kengor in the 4th inning.

Lincoln scored two more times in the 5th inning. RF Connor Panas tied the game with an RBI single and later scored on a bases-loaded single from LF Carson Maxwell to give Lincoln a 4-3 lead.

The Canaries took a 5-4 lead on a two-run homer from SS Jordan Barth in the 5th and CF Hunter Clanin made it 6-4 with an RBI triple later in the inning.

The ‘Dogs got one back on an RBI fielder’s choice from Maxwell in the 7th, but Ulrich’s sacrifice fly made it 7-5 in the bottom-half of the inning.

Lincoln regained the lead in the 8th, but the Canaries quickly answered in the bottom-half, tying the game on an RBI fielder’s choice before Barth’s go-ahead single made it 9-8. DH Jabari Henry later hit a three-run homer – the ninth between the two teams in the game – and Sioux Falls held on, 12-8.

LHP John Bezdicek allowed six runs over 4 and 1/3 innings while RHP Walter Borkovich allowed one run over 2 and 1/3 innings.
