GARY, Indiana – Garett Delano had two hits and a run scored, but the shorthanded Saltdogs fell short of a three-game sweep in a 4-1 loss to the Gary SouthShore RailCats at U.S. Steel Yard on Sunday afternoon.

Delano scored when Hunter Clanin hit a two-out double in the eighth inning, but the ‘Dogs (6-3) had just seven baserunners and committed a season-high three errors.

Greg Minier tossed five innings and allowed two runs – one earned – on three hits with no walks and two strikeouts, while David Zoz and Jonathan Cheshire each allowed one run over one relief inning.

Carson Lance tossed a shutout eighth inning with one strikeout, and the ‘Dogs walked just one batter in the series finale.

The RailCats (3-6) opened the scoring in the fourth inning. Michael Cruz gave Gary SouthShore a lead with his RBI single, and Alec Olund drove in another with a fielder’s choice.

The ‘Cats added to the lead in the seventh inning. Daniel Lingua hit an RBI double and K.V. Edwards then doubled him in to make it 4-0.

Sherman Graves had two more hits and went 6-for-13 in the series, while Clanin’s double extended his hitting streak to eight games.

The ‘Dogs finish the six-game trip 4-2, and now return home to Haymarket Park to begin a six-game homestand with the series opener against the Sioux City Explorers on Tuesday morning. First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. and will be live-streamed only on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
