FARGO, North Dakota – Zach St. Pierre allowed just two unearned runs over five innings in his first professional start, but the ‘Dogs fell short of a sweep in a 4-3 loss to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Newman Outdoor Field on Sunday afternoon.
Lincoln (34-41) opened the scoring with an RBI single from Jason Rogers in the 1st inning.
The RedHawks (47-27) took their first lead of the game when Leo Pina hit a two-out, two-run double in the 3rd inning. The ‘Dogs tied the game on Welington Dotel’s RBI single in the 4th and Rogers hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2 in the 5th.
Fargo-Moorhead tied the game on Sam Dexter’s two-out RBI single in the 6th and Peter Maris gave the ‘Hawks a 4-3 lead with a two-out RBI single in the 7th. All four of Fargo-Moorhead’s runs came with two outs in an inning.
David Zoz allowed two runs over two innings, taking his second loss this year. Carson Lance made his second appearance coming off the injured list, working around a single and a walk in a scoreless 8th inning.
The ‘Dogs had a chance to sweep a series in Fargo for the first time since June 28-30, 2002 – but finished 3-3 at Newman Outdoor Field this season.
The ‘Dogs and RedHawks will play a three-game series at Haymarket Park starting Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
