LINCOLN, NE – The Saltdogs’ comeback bid against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in game one of the series fell just short as Lincoln dropped game one by a score of 4-3.
OF Zan Zurbrugg reached three times including a single and an RBI double in his first multi-hit game of 2024.
LHP Abdallah Aris got his third start of the season throwing 6.0 innings surrendering six hits, four runs all earned, one walk, and a season-high three strikeouts. A three-run homer in the first and a solo homer in the third would all the RedHawks would get off of Aris.
OF Aaron Takacs continues his consistency at the plate reaching base four times, three of which by walking and recording a single as well.
RHP Wyatt Sparks put together his best outing of the year out of the Saltdogs bullpen going 2.0 innings in relief of Aris, giving up no hits, no runs, walking one batter, and striking out four.
RHP Brandon McCabe also put together a quick and good outing out of the pen giving up just one hit, no runs, and striking out two.
The RedHawks got on the board early, the ninth time already this season the Saltdogs have given up the game’s first run, but they were scoreless from the fourth through the ninth.
Lincoln battled back scoring one time in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings. The ‘Dogs did have the bases loaded with no one out in the bottom of the seventh and only were able to cash in one run out of it.
In the ninth Lincoln put the pressure on with runners on the corners and one out but back-to-back strikeouts put an end to game one of the three-game series. The Saltdogs are now 2-2 against Fargo-Moorhead in 2024, game two of the series is tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at Haymarket Park.
