LINCOLN, Nebraska – Skyler Weber hit a grand slam, Matt Goodheart drew four walks and the Saltdogs beat the Sioux City Explorers, 9-4, at Haymarket Park on Wednesday night.
Weber’s grand slam came as part of a six-run 6th inning. After both Welington Dotel and Josh Altmann drew bases-loaded walks, Weber hit a grand slam down the right-field line for his second grand slam of the year. Goodheart’s four walks tied Ryan Long for both the season high and franchise record.
Lincoln (28-31) took a 2-1 lead on Ryan Long’s two-run double in the 3rd inning. Sioux City (23-34) had opened the scoring on an RBI single from Trey Martin in the 1st.
After the X’s tied the game with an RBI single from Danry Vasquez in the 5th inning, Altmann hit a groundout that scored a run and restored Lincoln’s lead.
Martin later connected on a two-run homer in the 7th to make it 9-4, but the ‘Dogs held on to even the five-game series at two apiece.
Garett Delano earned the win, allowing two runs over five innings. Carter Hope allowed two runs in two innings, while Jonathan Cheshire tossed two scoreless innings to end the game.
