WINNIPEG, Manitoba – Nick Schulz went 4-for-4 with three doubles and a pair of RBIs, but the ‘Dogs allowed three separate innings with four-plus runs in a 15-10, series-opening loss to the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Shaw Park on Tuesday night.
Schulz became the fourth player with three extra-base hits in a game – and had his first four-hit game as a Saltdog. Lincoln had double-digit runs for the fourth time over the last 10 games, and finished with 17 combined hits.
Winnipeg only scored in three innings, but had four in the 2nd, five in the 3rd and six in the 6th. Lincoln starter Ricky Knapp allowed nine runs over 2.1 innings and Tyler Anderson allowed six runs over 1.2 innings. Kyle Kinman tossed 1.2 scoreless frames and Shairon Martis went 2.1 scoreless.
Randolph Oduber hit a three-run homer to cut the deficit to two in the 5th inning, and he finished with two hits in the game. Forrestt Allday extended his hitting streak to six and on-base streak to 20, while Christian Ibarra tied the team’s longest streak with a hit in his 11th consecutive game.
Cody Regis went 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and a pair of walks, and Josh Mazzola went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored in his return to Winnipeg – where he’d played for five of his eight American Association seasons.
All nine Saltdog starters recorded a hit, and all everyone but Ivan Marin – who went 1-for-3 with an RBI and hit-by-pitch – came in to score.
Game 2 of the three-game series is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday night, and pregame coverage will begin at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
