FARGO, North Dakota – Edgar Corcino hit a two-run single to give the ‘Dogs a lead in the 6th inning, but Fargo-Moorhead’s five-run bottom of the 6th was too much Lincoln to overcome in a 6-4 loss to the RedHawks at Newman Outdoor Field on Tuesday night.
Corcino’s single gave Lincoln a 3-1 lead as part of Lincoln’s two-out rally to take the lead. Skyler Weber later doubled in a third run and the Saltdogs (31-31) led 4-1.
The RedHawks (37-27) answered immediately. Manual Boscan singled in Sam Dexter – who reached on an error to begin the inning – and Leobaldo Pina made it a one-run game with his RBI double.
The Saltdogs were one strike away from ending the inning, but Dylan Kelly hit a bases-clearing double off of true rookie David Zoz in his professional debut, and the RedHawks held on to hand the Saltdogs a second straight loss.
Corcino went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored, while Justin Byrd extended his season-best hitting streak to 12 games with a single in the 7th inning. David Vidal went 3-for-4 and now has 10 hits over his last four games, while Garett Delano collected a hit in his fourth consecutive game as a pro.
Greg Minier allowed one run over five innings, while Walter Borkovich allowed four runs – one earned – over 0.1 innings. Zoz recorded two outs in his pro debut and was pegged with an unearned run, while Josh Norwood struck out three in the 7th and Fargo native Joe Hallock – only with the ‘Dogs for the first two games of this series – worked around a leadoff double in a scoreless 8th.
The ‘Dogs remain 4.5 games back of second-place Cleburne, who lost 7-1 to the Gary SouthShore RailCats on Tuesday.
Game two of the series is set for 7:02 p.m. on Wednesday, and pregame coverage will begin at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
