LINCOLN, Nebraska – David Vidal hit a two-run double, but the shorthanded Saltdogs lost 7-3 to the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Haymarket Park on Friday night.
Vidal’s two-out, two-run double got Lincoln (33-32) with two runs in the 8th inning, but Winnipeg (32-33) held on after adding two more in the 9th and won for the fourth time in five games between the two this year.
Winnipeg opened the scoring with a two-run run homer from Max Murphy in the 1st, and an RBI single from Austin Rei followed by a two-run double from Kevin Lachance made it 5-0 in the 2nd.
Lincoln got a run back on Josh Altmann’s RBI single the 6th – his first game since July 18th – before Vidal’s two-run double in the 8th.
Kyle Kinman tied a season-high with five runs allowed over 4.2 innings, and Kinman’s night ended with two outs and a 3-2 count to Dakota Conners in the 5th when the tarp was pulled and the game was delayed for 41 minutes due to rain.
Walter Borkovich tossed 2.1 scoreless frames before David Zoz allowed two runs over 1.1 innings and Josh Norwood retired the final two Goldeyes in the 9th inning.
Altmann went 2-for-4 in his return to the lineup, while Ryan Long also had two hits. Justin Byrd went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored, and Curt Smith went 1-for-3 with a walk and one run scored.
Both Cleburne and Sioux City won on Friday, and the ‘Dogs now sit 4.5 games out of a playoff spot in the South Division.
