FARGO, North Dakota – Curt Smith extended his season-best hitting streak to 11 games, but the ‘Dogs let an early lead get away in a 5-3 loss to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Newman Outdoor Field on Saturday afternoon.
The ‘Dogs opened the scoring on Daniel Herrera’s two-run single in the 2nd inning, but Brian Olson singled in a run in the bottom-half of the inning to make it 2-1.
Olson later tied the game with an RBI single in the 4th, but Josh Mazzola restored the lead with an two-out RBI single in the 5th. Immediately, back-to-back doubles from Tim Colwell and Leobaldo Piña scored a run to tie it at three after five innings.
The ‘Hawks took their first lead in the 6th after Yhoxian Medina grounded into a double play that allowed T.J. Bennett to score, and Fargo-Moorhead added an insurance run with Piña’s single in the 7th.
‘Dogs starter Jake Hohensee – making his first career pro start – gave up two runs over four innings, and Austin Pettibone took the loss after allowing two runs over two relief innings. Shairon Martis allowed one run in relief in the 7th, and Austin Boyle went 1-2-3 with two strikeouts in the 8th.
The ‘Dogs have lost three consecutive games to the RedHawks, but will not return to Fargo in 2019.
Randolph Oduber went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, and Mazzola’s RBI came in his 700th career American Association game. Cody Regis, Christian Ibarra, Tyler Moore and Forrestt Allday all added hits
Lincoln now gets two days off before a six-game trek down to Texas beginning in Cleburne on Tuesday night. First-pitch time from The Depot is scheduled for 7:06 p.m., and pregame coverage will begin at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
