LINCOLN, Nebraska – LHP Abdallah Aris tossed seven scoreless innings and the Saltdogs beat the Canaries 8-2 at Haymarket Park on Saturday evening.
Aris tossed the second straight quality start for Lincoln (10-15) and the ‘Dogs clinched their second series win of the year and have a chance for their first sweep this year on Sunday.
Lincoln improved to 5-0 in Aris’s starts and the left-hander allowed just two hits with two walks and two strikeouts in his longest start of the year.
The ‘Dogs opened the scoring on a two-run double from DH Yanio Perez in the 1st inning. Perez then made it 3-0 with a groundout in the 3rd.
2B Nate Samson hit his third homer of the year on the first pitch in the 5th inning and the ‘Dogs added three more runs in the 6th inning. Samson’s RBI single off the pitcher made it 5-0 before CF Nick Anderson worked a bases-loaded walk and 1B Matt Goodheart later scored on a wild pitch.
The ‘Dogs added a run on Samson’s sacrifice fly in the 7th, while the Canaries (11-17) scored twice off of RHP Carson Lance in the 9th in his return to the mound for the first time since May 21.
RHP R.J. Freure went 1-2-3 with two strikeouts in the 8th inning. Samson finished with three hits and three RBIs while Anderson reached four times in the game. RF Connor Panas had two hits and SS Drew Devine had two hits, a walk and two runs one night after winning the game with a walk-off single in the 9th inning.
The Saltdogs have a chance to sweep the Canaries on Sunday. First pitch of the finale is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. and pregame coverage begins at 12:35 on KFOR FM 101.5/1240 AM.
