GARY, Ind. — The Saltdogs (36-24) defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats (31-30) 4-1 around a 91-minute rain delay at U.S. Steel Yard Saturday night.
Lincoln has won 18 of its last 22, and now leads the Central division by a season-high 5 1/2 games.
Jarred Mederos hit an RBI double off the wall in left to give Gary a 1-0 lead in the third.
The Saltdogs began the fourth with five consecutive hits, including the game-tying double from true rookie Austin Darby and the go-ahead single from true rookie Connor Teykl.
Shairon Martis (7-5) pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits to earn the win.
Martis allowed a lead-off triple in the bottom of the sixth but induced a ground out and got two strikeouts to escape the jam with the lead intact.
Brandon Jacobs launched a solo homer in the eighth, his second of the year.
Jeff McKenzie pitched the final three innings scoreless to earn his fourth save of the year.
Teykl, a former Rice Owl, has driven in six runs in his first seven professional games with four doubles.
After the sixth inning, the game was delayed by rain for 91 minutes.
