LAREDO, Texas — Shairon Martis dealt six strong innings as the Saltdogs (32-23) blanked the Laredo Lemurs (32-25) for the second straight night in a 5-0 victory at Uni-Trade Stadium Sunday night.
The Saltdogs took two of three from the defending champions, wrapping up the weekend with 25 consecutive scoreless innings to match their season-long streak.
Martis (6-5) yielded five hits with two walks, striking out five to earn the win.
Clayton Cook, Jeff McKenzie and Stephen Shackleford finished out the eight-hitter from the Lincoln bullpen.
Brandon Jacobs belted his first home run of the season, a two-run shot in a three-run second inning.
Curt Smith stroked an opposite-field RBI double in the third to make it 4-0.
Smith finished 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI but left the game after the fifth inning with a leg injury.
Connor Teykl went 2-fir-4 with a double and two runs scored in his second professional game.
The Saltdogs now lead Gary by 3 1/2 games atop the Central, matching their largest lead of the campaign.
Lincoln boasts the league’s best ERA, and is just one shutout shy of matching the all-time franchise mark for shutouts in a season (nine).
The ‘Dogs are off Monday and begin a quick three-game home stand against the Kansas City T-Bones Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m.
