LINCOLN — The Saltdogs acquired veteran INF Omar Luna, a 2012 Tampa Bay Rays Organization All-Star, in a trade with the Amarillo Sox Saturday for a player to be named later.
Luna hit .315 with three home runs, 57 RBI, 20 doubles, 63 runs scored and 19 stolen bases for Double-A Montgomery in 2012.
The well-rounded campaign garnered him Southern League Mid-Season All-Star honors, Southern League Best Utility Player recognition, along with the MiLB.com Organization All-Star nod.
Luna joins Lincoln with 96 games of Triple-A experience and 202 games at the Double-A level for the Rays and Dodgers.
For his seven-plus season career, Luna sports a .263 batting average, with a highly-respectable .293 mark at the Double-A level.
Luna is hitting .286 with three RBI in 15 games for Laredo and Amarillo in 2014. The 27-year old from Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic is expected to be the Saltdogs' starting third baseman Saturday night at Gary.
The Saltdogs also placed INF Ian Gac back on the disabled list, retroactive to June 19 with a groin injury. RHP T.J. Bozeman (1-2, 4.74), who was on the disabled list, was traded to Grand Prairie for future considerations.
