EL PASO, Texas — The Saltdogs (24-37) overcame a late five-run deficit but ultimately fell to the El Paso Diablos (24-35) 18-17 in 10 innings at Cohen Stadium Sunday night.
Reid Fronk hit a walk-off, two-run single off Lincoln closer P.J. Zocchi in the bottom of the 10th for his fifth hit of the night. El Paso won the final two games of the series in the final at-bat.
The Saltdogs had taken the lead with a Stephen Holdren RBI single in the top of the 10th. Lincoln assumed its first lead of the night on a Sean Smith two-out triple in the top of the ninth before El Paso evened the score to send the game to extra innings.
David Casillas (2-0) pitched 2/3 of an inning in relief to pick up the win. Zocchi (1-2) allowed two runs in 1/3 of an inning to take the loss.
Lincoln set season highs in runs, errors (6), runs allowed, and hits allowed (21).
The Saltdogs finished the series with 43 hits but dropped two out of three games.
Lincoln opens up a three-game series at Laredo against the Lemurs Monday night at 7:30 p.m. Justin Edwards (3-4, 5.53) is slated to pitch for the ‘Dogs. Radio coverage begins at 7 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
