LINCOLN — Saltdogs LHP Matt Bywater was named by Pointstreak as the American Association Pitcher of the Week Monday after throwing a three-hit shutout June 6 at Fargo.

Bywater went the full nine innings at Newman Outdoor Field, striking out nine and walking one while allowing just three hits to earn the victory.

The 23-year old southpaw becomes the third Saltdogs player to earn a weekly award so far in 2013. Ian Gac and Dennis Raben garnered the first two "Hitter of the Week" honors.

Bywater has allowed just three earned runs over his previous three starts, and is now 2-1 with a 3.47 ERA on the season.

It was the first complete game the California native had thrown in his professional career, the first two years of which were spent in the Baltimore Orioles organization.

The Saltdogs open a three-game series Monday night at 7:05 p.m. at Sioux Falls. Bywater is slated to pitch in Tuesday night's game.
