Lubking started 2018 with the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League and posted a 0-1 record with a 9.82 ERA over seven outings. Then, he moved on to the San Rafael Pacifics of the Pacific Association. There, Lubking was 1-0 with a 1.96 ERA over 18.1 innings pitched. He struck out 25 batters and walked 16.

The southpaw was a 14th round pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2014 MLB Draft. The Rays sent him to Rookie League affiliate Princeton where he went 2-4 with a 3.51 ERA in 12 games. He surfaced in 2015 with the Brewers AZL team and pitched in seven games. He was 0-1 with a 6.10 ERA in ’15.

Lubking went to Division Three Pacific Lutheran University. He set the school record for strikeouts – twice.

The Washington native led all of D3 with 111 strikeouts in his junior season, breaking his school record of 102 from the previous year. He was 6-2 with a 2.12 ERA as a junior. The Lutes set a program record with a 2.75 team ERA. Lubking’s ERA was the fourth lowest by a PLU starter since 1972.
