Pettibone is beginning his first season of independent baseball after spending each of the last five seasons in the Texas Rangers organization. Pettibone was drafted in the 24th round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of UC Santa Barbara, and over his five seasons of affiliated experience, he’s 6-13 with a 4.72 ERA. The right-hander experienced a fairly standard rise through the Rangers’ system, first heading to Low-A Spokane the year he was drafted, and then to Single-A Hickory the next season. In both 2016 and 2017, Pettibone pitched in High-A, first with High Desert of the California League and then subsequently with Down East of the Carolina League. Last year, he had time at three different levels but also dealt with injury issues.
