Lincoln Saltdogs starting pitcher Jonathan Figueroa has been named the American Association Pitcher of the Week, for June 1-7.  The award was announced by PA-Sportsticker, the official statistician of the American Association.

Figueroa did not allow a run in either of his starts during the week.  On Wednesday, he threw six scoreless innings against St. Paul, allowing just three hits and striking out seven batters to earn his first win of the season.  Figueroa followed that up with another six scoreless innings of work on Sunday in Wichita, giving up just two hits and striking out six.  The 6-foot-5 lefty from Venezuela has now thrown 17 scoreless innings in a row over his last three starts.

Figueroa becomes the second Saltdogs player to win a weekly league honor in 2009.  First baseman Phil Hawke was named the American Association Batter of the Week for May 18-24.
