The Saltdogs acquired catcher Brent Dean in a trade with the Wichita Wingnuts on March 30, 2017. The veteran has spent parts of eight seasons in professional baseball.
Dean made his pro debut for the Sioux City X’s in 2009. He spent the next four seasons navigating the Milwaukee Brewers farm system. In 2014 he returned to the American Association and spent the next three seasons with the Wingnuts.
In his four seasons of affiliated ball, Dean hit .242 with a .290 OBP. He was outstanding behind the plate, boasting a .975 Fielding Percentage and catching 30 percent of runners stealing. In the Association, Dean has a .270 batting average and a .317 OBP.
College/Personal: Dean spent two seasons at Los Angeles Harbor College before transferring to UCLA for his final two years. Dean was superb in his senior season as a Bruin. He hit .278 with a .362 OBP in 79 plate appearances. He also threw out nine base stealers helping the Bruins to the highest caught stealing rate in the Pac-10. He hoped to earn fifth year of eligibility but was denied by the NCAA and spent one year as a graduate assistant.
