Christian Ibarra was acquired by the Saltdogs in a trade with Windy City on November 11, 2015 and was re-signed by the Saltdogs on April 4, 2017 after a stint with the Minnesota Twins.
Ibarra rejoins the Saltdogs after spending part of the 2016 season with the team. He helped the ‘Dogs to a hot start by ranking third in the American Association in batting, tied-third in home runs, tied-third in doubles and third in slugging percentage in his 19 games. He hit a blistering .371 and hit five home runs in 70 at bats.
After his contract was bought by the Twins, Ibarra split time between Single-A affiliate Cedar Rapids and High Level-A Fort Meyers. He combined to hit .240 with a .335 OBP while 16 extra-base hits in 204 at bats.
Ibarra played his first professional season in 2015 for the Amarillo Thunderheads in the American Association. He hit .278 with a .387 OBP over 58 games for Amarillo.
College/Personal: Ibarra starred for SEC powerhouse LSU in college. He joined the Tigers as a junior and earned First-Team All-SEC, SEC All-Defensive Team and SEC All-Tournament Team honors in his 2013 season. That year he started 65 games and hit .305 with 17 doubles, six homers, 39 RBI and 34 runs. The 2013 Tigers team made the College World Series.
Ibarra was selected in the 32nd round by the Pittsburgh Pirates after his junior season but elected to return to LSU for his senior year.
Ibarra struggled as a senior, hitting .238, but was solid in the team’s Regional games, going 5-15 with three runs.
Ibarra began collegiate career at Rio Hondo College (Whittier, Calif.) where he hit .396 with 20 doubles and 50 RBIs as a sophomore.
The infielder was a three-time team MVP at South Hills High School in West Covina, CA.
